During the Goody's Dash Series' 1999 Discount Auto Parts 200 at Daytona, Danny Bagwell, whose No. 10 Ford took a barrel roll off Turn 4 on lap 75. The car skidded roof-first onto the frontstretch lawn, ripping giant divots. It continued to flip until it stopped half on grass, and half on the entrance drive to pit road, lying on the driver's side. The unshattered Plexiglass windshield, which had popped free, fluttered to the ground in front of the hood.
Bagwell unhooked his safety harness, radio and helmet. Then he slid out back-first through the roof's roll bars and lay prone for several seconds, television replays showing him saying, "Thank God." He scrambled to his feet as two safety crew members reached him, and walked away, and was later transported to Halifax Medical Center for observation. He was evaluated and released.
